Elma® in Home Care

Elma® Detection improves the productivity and quality of care, supports care assessment periods, improves safety and facilitates longevity in a home-like environment

home care fall alarm

We all know, fall or fear of falling is one of the main reasons for elderly people to move into care facilities. Technological support is required for elderly people living maybe 3 or 5 years longer in their own home: Elma® Detection helps to achieve this goal.

The solution is a system, which can be installed without renovation or changes to the private home.

Elma® sensor indicates presence of a person in a room, detects, alerts and logs movement with highly discreet way: no cameras needed. Elma® enables efficient fall detection and provides essential information for assessment units, home care, doctors, and physiotherapy teams to support decision-making - without the need for on-site visits.

In home care, alarms, such as fall alarms, can also be sent directly to the nurses’ mobile devices. Burglar alarm can be directed, for example, to a security company when the resident is away from home.

Elma® detects e.g. the following events

  • falling
  • time spent in bed
  • time spent in different rooms
  • the number of toilet visits and their timing throughout the day
  • refrigerator visits/meals
  • leaving the apartment/staying out
  • nurse call
  • activity deviation
  • perpetrator breaking in
  • fire alarm

Diagrams provide valuable information

Through the user interface, nurses or other care staff can view both short-term and long-term activity diagrams and alarm history: the diagrams reveal crucial changes in behaviour that results from altering medication, and other routine changes that could otherwise go unnoticed.

The below sample short-term 7-day graph shows that the resident has been in the bed for an extended period of time. The resident last visited the kitchen 19 hours ago and has made only two visits to the bathroom during the last 24 hours. The alarm is triggered when activity indicator’s limits are exceeded. Alarms can be also triggered based on events like “missed dining”, “passivity (no movement in the morning)” or “bedroom time exceeded” (icons on the upper right corner of the graph).

The five graphs in the Elma® home care user interface show the activity status over a desired time period, compared to the threshold values set for the resident. Below are examples of the graphs over a 6-month review period:
